  • What is the Brain Story PEI Pilot program?

Our Brain Story PEI Pilot represents two years of work by the Alliance to create a new, positive, and evidence-based dialogue on PEI about mental health and well-being.

This comprehensive 35-hour training provided valuable insights into the science of resilience and brain development. The goal was to equip participants with knowledge and insights they can build into their prevention-based programming and services. We also wanted to build a common language around the science of brain development, so we are all working from a shared understanding of resiliency, toxic stress, protective factors, and other important concepts.

  • What is the duration of projects funded?

Projects typically need to be completed within a specific time frame, such as 12 months for single-year grants or up to three years for multi-year grants.

If a project is accepted for funding, the Alliance and the Grantee will determine specific milestones and deadlines for the project when completing the Grant Agreement prior to the project commencing.

  • Are there any restrictions on the use of funds?

Funds must be used in accordance with the project budget and proposal approved by the Alliance. Any changes to the project scope or budget must be discussed with and approved by the Alliance.

Past & Current Grantees
  • Are past Grantees eligible to apply for and receive another grant in the fall 2024 intake?

Grantees who have previously received funding or who are currently receiving funding but will be completing their project and grant reporting by December 31, 2024, are eligible to apply for funding in the upcoming grant cycle.

Grantees who are currently receiving funding and who will NOT have completed their project and grant reporting by December 31, 2024, are NOT eligible to apply for funding in the upcoming grant cycle as a Lead Applicant, but may partner with another organization as a Co-Applicant.

  • Are current Grantees who are projected to complete their existing grant by March 31, 2025, eligible to apply in this grant cycle?

Grantees who are in the process of completing a single-year or multi-year grant ending in 2025 will receive separate communication from the Alliance surrounding the closing out of the existing grant, and what funding or support options exist.

  • Can the same project be funded in multiple grant cycles?

Projects that have previously received a single-year grant are eligible to apply for a multi-year grant for the same project to further elevate or expand that project. If this is the case, the applicant will need to demonstrate in the application what they learned from the first grant and how those learnings and outcomes will be applied to the new iteration of the project.

The Application Process
  • What does the Grant Program application process include?

We’ve outlined our grant application process here.

After Submitting an Application
  • Who will review the application? How will it be evaluated?

The PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being has a Peer Review Committee that reviews applications.

Peer Reviewers will evaluate and analyze the applications based on a number of predetermined factors, including the alignment of the project with the grant program objectives and the needs of the community.

  • What happens after I apply?

All applicants will be notified about the outcome of their applications by March 2025.

Applicants may be asked to submit additional documents or answer questions to support the review and decision process, including proof of credentials, statements of insurance, letters of support from partner organizations, community representatives, etc.

  • What happens if my application is not accepted for funding?

The Alliance will do its best to provide feedback and insight into the reason for a project not receiving funding. Where possible, upon notification that a project was not successful in receiving funding, the Lead Applicant will be offered the opportunity to meet with the Alliance staff to discuss the application and feedback received from the Peer Reviewers. This is optional and organizations are not required to meet if they do not wish to do so.

  • Who do I contact for more information?

Questions about the Grant Program can be directed to the Program Coordinator, Bryn Turner, at grants@afmwb.com.
