Join our Peer Review Committee and help the Alliance for Mental Well-Being drive positive change and foster collective impact by empowering community organizations to do their most ambitious and important work.

Grant Program

The Alliance’s Grant Program enhances our capacity to achieve our mission by empowering community organizations to deliver projects and initiatives that improve mental well-being outcomes for people on PEI. The Grant Program is an annual funding mechanism that drives positive change by creating the conditions for building a shared knowledge base grounded in evidence; and developing and nurturing partnerships for collective impact.

The Peer Review Committee

An independent Peer Review Committee is responsible for adjudicating grant applications against specific Grant Program criteria and participating in discussions that result in funding recommendations to the Alliance Board of Directors for approval.

 

Peer Reviewers are offered an honorarium for volunteering their time and effort to the Grant Program’s adjudication process.

Role of a Peer Reviewer
Peer Reviewers are responsible for assessing project applications against specific Grant Program criteria and participating in group discussions that result in recommendations for funding approval to the Alliance Board of Directors.
This multi-step process supports Peer Reviewers to apply their diverse knowledge and skills to critically assess applications and provide feedback through scoring and constructive commenting.
Peer Review Committee Members
Peer Reviewers carry out their important role by bringing some, or all, of the following qualifications and attributes to the Committee:
  • Awareness and understanding of the Alliance, our mission, vision and values and the objectives of our Grant Program;
  • Knowledge of the science of resilience and brain development and its application, and/or collective impact approaches drawn from any context, including professional or community-based work, academic, lived experience, etc.;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the PEI community, contexts and diverse population groups;
  • Research and/or evaluation expertise;
  • Experience in Indigenous contexts;
  • Experience in equity deserving contexts;
  • Experience in grant writing or review;
  • Experience in the non-profit/charitable sector; and
All Peer Reviewers must have the capacity to maintain confidentiality, act in the absence of conflict of interest, and uphold fairness and transparency throughout the grant application review process.

The Alliance for Mental Well-Being welcomes applications from individuals interested in participating as Peer Reviewers.

Responsibility of a Peer Reviewer

Peer Reviewers commit to performing the following activities associated with the Grant Program adjudication process.

 

Application Assessment:

Review and score grant applications based on predefined criteria.

Engage in discussions with fellow reviewers to achieve consensus on funding recommendations.

 

Orientation and Training:

Learn about the Alliance and the Grant Program, the grant assessment criteria and how to use the grant portal.

Anticipated Time Commitment

The expected time commitment of a Peer Reviewer is 25-30 hours over a three-to-four-month (October – January) period.

 

This commitment is inclusive of the orientation and training provided by the Alliance, individual preparation and application review and assessment, and participating in group discussions about the applications.

Technology, Internet and System Requirements

Peer Reviewers are required to use the Alliance’s Grant Lifecycle Manager system to access and adjudicate all grant applications. Peer Reviewers must have access to a secure, private computer and a strong and stable internet connection. Using public Wi-Fi or unsecured networks poses a significant risk to the confidentiality of applications and should be avoided.

Provide an up-to-date copy of a resume or CV (as outlined in the Peer Review Committee Application Form).

The Alliance will contact qualified applicants with additional information, questions, or next steps prior to selecting Peer Review Committee members. Successful applicants will be asked to join the Peer Review Committee pending the completion of a reference check and/or any other verification process.
