PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being Visiting Island Communities for Resiliency Roadshow

Charlottetown, PEI The PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being will visit three communities across the Island to deliver its Resiliency Roadshow event series on the week of June 20, 2022. The Roadshow events will feature experiential activities and initiatives that leave attendees with an understanding of the science of resilience and how its benefits can be accessed in communities.

Resilience is an individual’s ability to sustain mental well-being during adversity or toxic stress. It is not a character trait, but something that can be built over a lifetime through supporting responsive relationships, strengthening core life skills and reducing sources of toxic stress.

“Resilience is more than a buzzword. A comprehensive body of science around it has developed in recent decades,” said Connolly Aziz, Senior Partnership Advisor for the Alliance. “There are evidence-based factors proven to strengthen resilience ones we will help develop at the community level with supportive measures for long-term sustainability.”

The Roadshow events will be open to organizations, individuals and other groups interested in learning more about what research around resilience shows. This includes the ways it can help people identify what they need to improve mental well-being and how it can inform the design of initiatives to strengthen impact in communities.

Each event will have a presentation introducing the science of resilience, a discussion about public perceptions and knowledge of resilience and an activity that will help attendees identify coping needs as related to the science (and the evidence-based factors shown to build resilience).

Attendees will also get the chance to meet with current recipients of the Alliance’s Focusing Action for Positive Change Grant Program and learn more about the summer cycle of the Grant Program that is open from June until September 2022.

“Events like the Roadshow series give us an opportunity to get out in the community, encourage widespread understanding of the science of resilience and show how it can be used as a resource and tool,” said Karen Cumberland, Executive Director for the Alliance. “By sharing information, creating connections and highlighting existing community programs and initiatives that support mental well-being, we hope to inspire and empower attendees.”
